Writing
is a subtle art form and the smallest thing could mean the difference
in your book being a run of the mill tome or a masterpiece. It could
also mean the difference between you staying motivated and quitting on
your dreams as a writer. Which is why you should practice habits that
will help you develop as a writer and keep you on the track to being a
great writer. Here are
some habits that can help you stay motivated as a writer.
Writing usually entails you to use your brain power more than
anything else but this does not mean that you ignore other facets of who
you are. You should also try to embrace your more physical side and
work out more often. This change not only benefits you physically but
can also help you as a writer. This is because exercise helps you to
unwind and it also helps raise serotonin levels in your body. Jogging is
a great form of exercise because not only does it help you to shed the
pounds it is can be used to help calm your mind before you write.
- Have a special place to work
You should make sure that you have a good place to write.
Remember that writing a book takes a lot of time and you will be
surprised at how much work it entails. This means that you will be
sitting in front of your laptop for hours and writing page after page in
the same place. And although you do have a passion for writing, it can
get old very fast. Which is why you should have a special place to work
in. It could be practically anything. From your kid’s treehouse or your
study. It must be comfortable and well lit so that you do not get
uncomfortable and have proper light during the writing process. It must
also be conducive to writing, which means that you should have peace and
quiet while you are in your workplace.
- Get up early in the morning
It does not matter whether you want to
write in the morning or at night. It is always a good idea to get up early
in the morning. This is because the earlier you get up the more work
you will get done. It will also allow you to get a good head start on
the day.
Having a fixed schedule is a must when it comes to writing. This is
because writing, as enriching as it is it can also be quite difficult.
And it takes a great deal of discipline to keep doing it every day. This
is why you need to have a regimented approach to it. If you want to
schedule your writing sessions, it should be at a
time you are most comfortable with. Do you prefer writing
in the early morning before work or late at night? It does not really
matter what time it is, just as long as you can sustain it.
Meditation is considerably one of the best ways to clear your mind of
troubles. The practice of meditation was first used by Buddhist monks.
They used meditation to clear themselves of worldly desires. It helped
them to focus their thoughts and reach a center of calm. As a
writer meditation can help you in many ways.
It can help you to reduce stress levels and improves your ability to
concentrate on your work. And seeing as stress is one of the reasons why
some authors lose their motivation to write, meditation is an extremely
useful habit to have as a writer.
- Listen to classical music
It is a proven fact that classical music helps brain development. The
effects of music are fundamental in life and people who regularly
listen to it always seem to excel in their chosen fields. Some of the
greatest minds in history from artist to musicians. Albert Einstein
himself listened to classical music. Thus it is a
good idea to listen to classical music while writing. It is advisable that you listen to Classical greats like Beethoven, Bach and Mozart.
