Tips on How to Create a Truly Unique and Interesting Story!

14
Being able to create a truly unique story is a hard earned skill. True you may have a talent for writing, but it takes more than talent to do it. That’s because truly unique stories are derived from the author himself. It is a story that he has poured his heart and soul into, his experience and talent converging into one defining work. Which is why making a truly unique and interesting is a difficult endeavor. It is also a worthy one. Here are some great tips that will help you to create a unique story of your own.
  • Think outside the box
One of the main problems that some authors have in creating a truly unique story is that they limit themselves. As a writer you are given incredible freedom. You are given the power to write about your perceptions on the world and even create worlds from your own imagination. And if you don’t push the boundaries of your imagination you are wasting this golden opportunity. So when you are writing a story be as open minded and spontaneous as possible. Who knows, maybe your next idea will make you the next Stephen King.
  • Use music to gain inspiration
Music and writing have a very noticeable similarity with each other. It is the fact that they can induce strong emotions in people. Have you ever noticed how music tends to make you feel sad or euphoric depending on the song you are listening to? And have you also noticed how certain books also make you feel the same? Music and writing are both art forms and you can get inspiration from both. If you are an author you can be inspired to make great work of literature from a song you love, and if you are a musician you can be inspired to make beautiful music from great literature.
  • Read the classics
If you want to create truly great literature, you would be well advised to read the classics and keep them to heart. The reason why they are called classics is because they are the best of their times. They are works that did not follow a specific genre. In truth these classics spawned genres of their own and were the most popular books in their respective eras. They are still popular to this very day. Which is why you should read them and make your own classic.
  • It’s all in the dialogue
One of the best ways to hook in readers to your book is dialogue. Have you ever read a book and once you read the very first dialogue of the book and you are hooked right away? This is the power of well written dialogue. It draws you in from the very first sentence and keeps you tuned in until you finish the book.
  • Ask for help from fellow authors
Asking help from fellow writers is a great way to create a truly unique story. This is because they could spot mistakes you could have overlooked. Older and more experienced writers could also give you advice on pacing and dialogue. As writers you are understandably proud of your work and can be quite protective of it. But you should be open minded when it comes to advice, because this is all to make your story better.
  • Instill different emotions to your story
Being able to instill different emotions into your story is one of the trademarks of being a good writer. You can be as technically sound as possible, but if you lack the ability to convey emotion in your writing. Then you will find it very difficult for you to create a truly unique book. Your characters should sound and feel as if they were real people with real lives and issues and the dialogue should be as unique as possible.
  • Give the characters quirks and mannerisms
Some of the best characters in literary history have quirks that make them unique. Sherlock Holmes for example is a brilliant sleuth that is very clinical in his approach to fighting crime.  And yet as brilliant as he is also considered to be strange by his peers and is eccentric to say the least. These contradictions are what made him a truly memorable character.
  • Be very careful editing your work
When it comes to writing a great book, it is also important that you edit it properly. Make sure that your book is grammatically correct and that the words used are satisfactory. Whether you have a publisher or self-publishing your book, it is important to remember that nothing hurts your book marketing campaign more than shabby editing work.
All in all when it comes to writing a truly unique story, the most important thing to remember is that you should always be passionate in your writing. The more passionate you are, the more chances you have of succeeding.
